What I’ve been wanting to do for a long time is design a whole new kind of card game... one that doesn’t use numbers; at least in the casual sense.
No strength/power/will/toughness/vitality/resistance/ability/forfeit/etc. No stats to target on a character because, in my opinion, that takes away a lot of flavor from a character.
So I’ve been on a mental mission to crack this code. It’s some real out-of-the-box kind of thinking... like envisioning a square peg fitting into a round hole. It hasn’t been easy.
Have you thought about this before? Have you come up with anything? |

Whoa. Um...
You could try destruction cards, some sort of combat triangle thing, or something like that. If it works, that would be awesome.
Try alternate win conditions, like deckout or something, and preventing abilities.

Thinking here...
What about some sort of revealing cards from top of deck until some particular thing is revealed (ie, in a battle, both sides reveal until they get, say, some particular card type that you are required to have exactly X of in the deck. Whichever reveals more cards wins. Shuffle deck.)?
Seems like your opponent would learn your deck pretty fast that way, though.
Or different skills/affiliations?
Hyper-simplified DC Example:
*Alpha, First Example
[Air Force]
[Repair]
[Combat]
(card text)
*Beta, Second Example
[Anti-Air Battery]
[Explosives]
[Golfing]
(card text.)
There might not be direct combat in this instance, but the skill icons are used for different cards, sort of like unloaded keywords.
For battle, whichever side has more units wins, and the losing side must kill however many units as the winning has more than losing. (Casualties = #winners - #losers)
Other cards can alter this:
Good Fighters
Event - Skirmish
Add X to your battleunit count, where X is the number of units present with [Combat].
(in other words, for each guy involved in the skirmish with the combat icon, you can add another to your total.)
or
Narrow Escape
Event - Skirmish
If you are about to lose a battle, you may do so-and-so to prevent 1 casualty.
If nothing else, hope this works as a springboard for ideas.... |

| I actually have thought about this. In fact...I’ve even developed a basic CCG idea around it. It deals with matching affiliations on cards, with certain affiliation combos being bad or good. The story being that you’re trying to build an army out of a bunch of diverse units, and so some of the groups have tension between them. |

Decipher did something similar to this with their stupid Beyblade game. It was basically uno with a life pile.
Check out some info on the game here:
