Check it out here:
Peter Jackson to produce "The Hobbit"
I wonder what the movie titles will be? Perhaps "The Hobbit: There" and "The Hobbit: Back Again" ? |

| Awesome I will have to see that. Maybe this will be the start of a new CCG/TCG since decipher is being backed. Maybe a hobbit TCG that can be used with the LOtR cards that would be nice. Just a thought. |

’bout time they finally got that all resolved.
Two movies. That’ll be interesting. I wonder where they’ll make the division? I would guess movie 1 would be up until they get to the Lonely Mountain, and movie 2 is the rest.
I wonder how they’re gonna portray the Ring? In the Hobbit book, there was obviously no indication that the Ring was evil, so I wonder if they’ll actually have it outright screwing with stuff, or if they’ll just have a few subtle indications.... |

hippo read on a different site, that the first would be all hobbit, and the second would have something to do with the simirillion and unfinished tales.
maybe they can add something about hippos |
hippo is a cop. Hippo need your help. Help hippo
don't help hippo
if you chose help hippo, you can help by giving hints. Hippo knows rules not allow giving things away. |

That doesn’t seem to be the direction that they’re taking. It looks like they will divide The Hobbit down the middle.
If I took this route (which I would, considering any prequel must set up Fellowship of the Ring... no easy task), I would put much more information into the fold than what actually takes place in the book.
For instance, introducing Legolas and Arwen at their respective homes. I know that, at the time of the story, Arwen is actually in Lorien, but... meh. No one will whine about that. Legolas would fit perfectly into the story, however, seeing as his father is a key player.
The White Council can be included, as well as the unmasking of the Necromancer at Dol Guldur. I think adding all of this will be difficult, as it really has little immediately to do with Bilbo (only indirectly through the Ring, which is *not* the heart of the Hobbit’s story). As long as Jackson propels the Ring to the main character that it was in the trilogy, it will work out.
Where to cut it, though. That’s tricky. My intuition tells me to end the first movie as Bilbo enters Thranduil’s caves, either before busting out the Dwarves or just as (creating a cliff-hanger in both cases). In that fashion, the first movie would introduce the Ring, introduce every character needed to drive a second movie, and move the plot along far enough to make people interested.
Quite obviously, The Hobbit will be the title of film 1. If not, then The Hobbit will become a sur-title. The Hobbit: Finding of the Ring and The Hobbit: Battle of Five Armies, for example.
I really can’t wait to see how this works out.
And no, Decipher wont have a hand in The Hobbit. Their license has expired, and that usually means the owners will go somewhere else, if at all.
BTW: Thanks for the news, Merrick! Very good work. |

When I came to Abraham I let him live just a moment longer. When I came to Moses I saved his life more than once. But the salmon... I regret to say I had a hand in its death.

You might be surprised how many purists would complain about that.

That would be awesome...especially because it would set up Saruman as a nobler character.

Hmm, yes, that would be a good place. Especially because you’d have a big fight scene with the spiders just before then. And the fact that movie two would set up the Lonely Mountain.
I’m excited to see where this leads. |

Good to see that the gears are finally beginning to turn. It’d be awesome if a few sets came with the movies, but I s’pose I’m just looking the gift horse in the mouth.
Thanks for the alert, Merrick! |

Trailers?!?
They haven’t even started writing the script!
I’m guessing titles will be something like
The Hobbit: The Ring
(or The Hobbit: The Ring of Power)
and The Hobbit: The Five Armies |
