Hello CC forumers,
I know I haven’t been the most active member on these boards, post-wise, but I have enjoyed the many members lounge discussion we have had. However I will be gone now for several months, and would appreciate your thoughts and prayers.
I will be going to Washington D.C. this Friday, to be a Congressional Page for the Republican Minority in Congress. I was nominated by Rep. Tom Latham Iowa-R for this post, which is only available to Juniors in High School. I will be one of about 60 pages living in a dorm, just south of Capital hill.
I will be there from now until June 6th. As a page, I will be working about 8 hours a day, doing mostly "glorified go-fering", basically running errands for the Republican representatives, taking bills, memos, and suchto offices, fetching coffee etc..
I will also have a full class-load at the same time, with classes starting at 6:45 A.M. for me. I am looking forward to it, but also am nervous, just with the amount that is expected of me.
So if you could pray for several thing, I would appreciate it.
1.) Getting there in one piece, (luggage and all).
2.) For my dorm roommate, I don’t know who it will be yet
3.) That I will be a helpful servant to those I meet.
4.) That I be a good example for Christ.
So yeah that abouts some it up, I will try and have SickofPalantirs (my brother) post updates, and such.
Thanks, and if you have any questions please post them. |

That’s really cool! Good for you. Hopefully YOU’LL be able to pop in with occasional updates too.
Just brace yourself for the traffic. It’s AWFUL. Crime is notoriously bad in certain DC neighborhoods, too, but other than that this isn’t a bad area. Not trying to scare you out of coming, really.
And hey, maybe we can catch a movie or dinner or something while you’re in town. Not every day a fellow forumer comes to stay in my backyard for so long. I live like half an hour from where you’ll probably be, and I work close too.
Again, good for you. I’ll pray for ya, certainly. |

Check out Lasting Alliances, The Road Ahead, and Ages of Middle-earth, three of my five dream card sets that make up Wars of the Ring. Oh, and I have a trade list now!
Also, if you're into DCs or RPGs (or even if you're not!), check out Realms of Middle-earth, the sequel to CG's "DC Adventure", Realms of the North! |

Kinda, main difference being that pages work for all the congressman of their political party...
As to dain remarks,
yeah i have heard about the traffic, I love how directions to parts of D.C always so how far something is in minutes, instead of miles.
It would be cool to meet up sometime, maybe play some LOTR TCG, (sadly I won’t have room in my luggage for cards.) |

The worst thing about DC traffic is that there are a TON of one-way streets. Make sure whatever maps you have are labeled properly, because the ones that aren’t make things VERY frustrating. "I can’t turn down that street, you stupid map! It’s one way, and that way is the OTHER way!" Yeah, been there a few times.
June is a long way off. We’ll see if we can work something out. |

Hey, congrats... sounds fun.
If you have a chance, see if you can find the DC WW1 memorial. It’s a neat little memorial I stumbled onto while I was in DC once. Distressingly run down, but i heard they were working on restoring it. |

hey guys,
I am writing to you from the wonderful city of washington D.C.
More specifically, I am in the Page residence hall dorm right now.
Since pages are federal employees, we get passwords that let use into the
Secure House Network. So I can look up reports and things for some of my
classes,...if I can figure it out..
It is hard to believe that this is the fourth day. Feels like forever.
My first work day was Monday the 27th. All the pages got to be on the
House Floor during the State of the Union Address. It is quite the honor
to be allowed on the floor, normally only Senators, and Congress members
are allowed.
It involved a lot of clapping, mostly for the Republican side of congress.
Very neat, I didn’t get to shake the Presidents hand, but I did touch the
back of his blazer, as he leaned the other way to shake hands.
yes, I am talking about The Presidentm George Bush.
Also, Barack Obama waved to us, which was cool because we (meaning the
Republicans pages) were on the right side of the aisle...seems like a
decent fellow.
Also saw almost all the supreme court justices, Roberts, Alito, etc.
Also Condileeza Rice, Dick Cheney, Chris Dodd, and a whole bunch of
congress members and senators.
On top of that, I got to say hello to my sponsoring member, Tom Latham.
As far as school goes, we have to be at school, which is at the Library of
Congress Jefferson Building, by 6:45...not 6:45:01 as our teachers have
stressed many times. Right now I am taking the following classes,
Honors British Literature, Honors Energy and Public Policy,Honors Pre-calc
with Trig, Honors International Relations, and Honors Studies in
Leadership...good classes, but pretty hard.
I can’t think of much else at the moment, I am pretty fried, please post
any questions,
Spasiba,

I caught the tail end of the State of the Union address and watched him all the way through the door. Lots of handshakes, lots of autographs... and I actually remember a random hand reaching over and tapping him because I thought it was funny. Maybe it was you!
I’ve always admired the justices and military for sitting with a calm composure while one half or the other is leaping up to give standing ovations (though I think they’re meant to do that except possibly for the non-partisan stuff).
Sounds like you’re busy learning loads but having a good time. Good to hear, and thanks for the update! |
