Although he’ll never tell you this, CC’s very own AgentDrake has officially taken first place in team policy debate (with his partner, of course), at a tournament under the dome of the Kansas Capitol! Congratulations!
(And trust me, first place in debate is not easy. I’ve been doing this for several years and didn’t even make it to quarterfinals there). |

Whoa I didn’t know AD was involved in Debate! Much less that he won a first place!
Round of Applause! |

Popcorn is not gooey like fat, and also not crunchy like potato chips, but crispy like lettuce which makes it a healthy snack. |

Hey, thanks, guys!
It was pretty dang cool to debate in the KS capitol rotunda. Despite the tours passing through the middle of the round. heh heh.
Then me, my partner, and our opponents got our picture taken beneath that insane painting of John Brown. We were going to have one team on one side of JB, and one on the other, but both we and our oponnents picked the Confederate side of the painting. Go figure.
Yeah, it was fun. I’m hoping to get some stuff from the tournament into the Welcome to My World DCs pretty soon.
EDIT: Here’s the John Brown painting:

Ah yes, the one that makes him look like he’s going to single-handedly destroy the universe.
BTW, the aforementioned champion also did pretty well in forensics, if I hear correct. 4th in expository speaking and...I forget how he did in Open Interpretation.
However, he didn’t win everything. I beat him at LotR 3-0 at the tournament, including a multiplayer game where he and his brother ganged up on me before I dropped them both to a hail of arrows. Rematch on SdA as soon as you’re ready, AD. Oh yeah, and he lost a wager with me on who would win the Lincoln-Douglass finals (and that was with him giving me 40:1 odds). |

A bet like that would be extremely serious.
40:1 odds? got to be kidding. |

Yeah, I put a 40:1 bet on the final round, and lost.
But hey, it was leftover Brit money from my trip to England, so it’s not like I could have spent it.
£5 (which comes out to about $10, IIRC) to 25c.
Oh well. |

Expository speaking and Open Interp...what are they? I’ve done forensics, but never run into those. Wait...are you in a different league than the NFL? |

Yeah, we’re NCFCA. Homeschoolers league, and (supposedly) one of the larger highschool non-NFL leagues.
Open is a catch-all; basically any interp you want to do, including your own writing, and multiple interps all worked together around a common theme (called a thematic. There was one year where we had a thematic category separate from Open, which was... interesting) as opposed to Humorous Interp (should be funny) and Dramatic Interp (should be dramatic, but in our area, it generally ends up just being morbid....)
Expository is a platform speech where you get to use props. In my case, that means a bunch of Kinkos-printed powerpoint slides with vikings and Shakespeare. |
