I don’t know about you guys, but i’m not liking the new system for the member’s lounge. No one wants to post here anymore, because your stuff just gets deleted after 10 days. Say goodbye to people who care about there post count...
The thing that really ticked me off: i lost 180+ posts. Nearly 200 posts gone down the drain. This sub-forum used to have more activity than anywhere else, but now it has the least.
And this thread will be off the map in 10 days.
(And don’t think that i’m an overreacting baby, cause i’m not. LotR TCG was the last shred of a nerd that there was in me, and i knew i needed to lose it. And, luckily for me, this is the perfect excuse)

Just didn’t want to leave you guys hangin, but i won’t be around here anymore. So, don’t expect to see me, but i might post again sometime...

I love the new system. It weeds out all the posts that aren’t needed as much, and makes it a lot easier to get to the posts that are worthwhile. Saves a lot of time for people like me. Very Happy

My Two Cents.

I don’t like it nearly as much.
I had to put something here.

If it were a question of Conor not having enough Bandwidth Usage on the site to account for the storage of all the files, then sure....delete the less necessary posts and just keep the more important ones.

But, I love going back and looking over posts that I and others have made in the past, sometimes for humor, sometimes not. But it does help to bring up stuff from like a year ago to prove a point.

Just my Two Cents

This, in a nutshell, is exactly the point. We had an incentive for people to post as much as possible, and then we provided a forum where any posts, no matter how short or off-topic, would be acceptable. As a result, the Member’s Lounge had become a place for people to post all sorts of nonsense for the sole purpose of boosting their post count, perhaps even at the expense of our other forums.

How to fix that loophole? There were two options -- either stop tolerating "spammy" posts altogether, or just stop including them in post counts. The second option was obviously much better, and auto-deleting old posts was the easiest way to accomplish it.

I actually did not anticipate any sort of reaction to older posts being deleted -- if this is the part that you guys don’t like, I’m open to other suggestions. I could increase the time limit to two weeks, or even 30 days... or, I may even be able to set things up so that Member’s Lounge posts can remain here indefinitely, but simply won’t count towards anyone’s total posts.

But however it is accomplished, the policy that Member’s Lounge posts will not be included in total post counts is going to be a permanent fixture.

If you want to entertain yourself here, you can still do that. Post links or funny pictures, ask and answer personal questions, talk about the local weather -- go wild! But these posts will be for entertainment only, as it should be.

If you want to build up your post count, you can still do that too. But only posts which contribute to the real substance of these forums -- LOTR TCG and Magic: The Gathering strategies, decks, news/rumors, comments on any of the above, and so on -- will count towards your total number of posts. This is also as it should be.

Cobra, don’t delete the old posts...

1) General section doesn’t add to your post count. Period. (as you mentioned)

2) don’t display post count at all. don’t make it accessible through your profile. just get rid of it (my favorite option)

^_^

Pip: Post count is ridiculous. Why does it matter sooo much to you? Seems like you gotta a little *shred of nerd* left in you afterall.

Thanks for your input, Phazanzar. Option #2 frankly won’t happen -- I do want to encourage people to contribute, just not to spam so much. Laughing

Option #1 seems to me like the best idea at the moment....

Other comments?

You could get tOO’s points for posts idea up, so people would still have a reason to post (but if they spam and it gets deleted by a mod it minuses twice what they gained from it or something) so they’d still have a reason to post, without having a "post count."

I’m just shooting in the dark right now.

I think that’s a separate issue -- I would still want to keep Member’s Lounge posts out of the "incentive" picture, whether that picture is a post count, a points system, or something else. Our moderators’ energies are put to better use elsewhere IMO. Cool

I do like tOO’s idea though, and will probably think about ways to implement it over the summer.

All right, I think we’re going to go with the idea of simply preventing Member’s Lounge posts from being considered for post counts at all. This is definitely a "cleaner" solution since it doesn’t require any deleting of posts.

Unlike the previous change (Embarassed) this one is easy to reverse, so other options may also be considered if anyone has further input.
