At the airport of Bangkok theu went through my lugage and wondered what they were. I told the lady that it is like a dutch treat, a small version of a cookie. I asked her if she wanted to try some, but she refused, thinking it was dogfood

Elrohir, you have St Nikolaus 6th of december? We have him at the fifth. It is an ancient celebration and the stories of how it evolved vary a lot. Most commonly accepted is that Sinterklaas -as we call him- was a bisshop in Myra, a turkish city. He gave presents to children, and buying free some who where slaves.
He always appears with some helpers, dark skinned people, we call black pete, Zwarte Piet. Some think it is racist action, but trust me it is not. Well, maybe I should quit my explaination, for some might be offended and still stay it is a racist action, but most coloured people here embrase them as heroes

Some say that the story of Sinterklaas comes from the German god called Wodan who sat on a white horse, going over the roofs and capturing the demons who hid in the chimneys. He had a grabbing hook, we now know as his staff. The demons got black due to the ashes...
To get back on the Myra story, some say that 1 day he bought a Ethiopean slave, that from that day helped St Nicolaas which became Sinterklaas in dutch....
