Legolas, Elven Comrade
« on: August 11, 2009, 01:11:45 am »
You know, I've always considered My Axe Is Notched and Final Count to be pretty worthless...but here's a question.

Legolas, Elven Comrade's game text makes a minion skirmishing an unbound companion strength -1 (or -2 if that companion is Gimli). If I use Gimli, Bearer of Grudges as my ring-bearer, would using Legolas' game text ignore the fact that Gimli is ring-bound? Or is Legolas's game text (or -2 if that companion is an unbound Gimli).

I am leaning toward the latter. I am just awfully bored and wanted to make a legitimate My Axe Is Notched/Final Count deck...and realized that there isn't one.

make an unbound...   if that...

'if that' is refering to 'that' unbound companion, I am only guessing here but would say that Elven Comrade's text won't work with a gimli RB..

But as I said just a guess..

That was my understanding as well. Of course, I completely forgot about the existence of Legolas, Archer of Mirkwood...

...but I still don't think there is a good My Axe Is Notched/Final Count deck.

Agreed. I wouldn't bother with either of those cards (unless for fun).. Especially if you're playing expanded, which is the only format for that combo of legolas and gimli.

Yep, the target has to be unbound and therefore "that companion" may not be Gimli, BoG.

Unless Gimli is not the Ring-bearer, n'est-ce pas?

with a Trust me as you once did twist you could make a nice deck. Point is though that you can lose conditions, and thus the strength bonus.

Well, since Legolas, Elven Comrade is a bust, I figure the best idea would be Gimli, Bearer of Grudges and Legolas, Archer of Mirkwood. Also start Sam, Son of Hamfast to remove the burdens you are going to add to fetch Ring of Fury with The One Ring, the Binding Ring.

Four copies of Aragorn, Driven By Need is probably necessary because you are going to be adding a ton of threats when Gimli fights. And after you kill off Sam by site four, the three hunters will drive the ring to Mount Doom!

...at least, that's how it works in my head. I'm sure the deck would fail miserably in action. Four copies of Quick As May Be and a copy or two of Shoulder to Shoulder are probably necessary. And using Gimli's Battle Axe, Trusted Weapon makes perfect sense because you are guaranteed two threats when he fights!

Gondor has the best healing cards to heal Gimli or Legolas during the Fellowship phase...and, more importantly, healing himself after removing two to three threats every turn.

Someone want to give this a shot in Movie Block? Come up with a deck along these lines? Maybe I'll try it out in SdA, if I can ever get that working again.

Here's an idea...but it needs a lot of work. Now I have to do actual work. It's 9 am and all I've done is internet surf all morning.

Not true.  He is only gains ringbound if he is the ringbearer.  (he doesnt naturally have that keyword)

I was under the impression that all alternate ringbearers are ringbound (the gold ring around the resistance icon)

even if not being used as he ringbearer..

Can anyone clarify this?

That's what I was saying. Unless there is the specific term "Ring-Bound" or if the character is the Ring-Bearer, then the character is Ring-Bound. Otherwise, he or she is not.

CR, "starting fellowship": "Your fellowship begins with a character bearing The One Ring. This can be any character with the ringed resistance icon, or any version of Frodo. That character gains the keywords Ring-bearer and Ring-bound, if he does not already have them."

Basically the keywords are granted to a character with the ringed resistance icon only if that character is the Ring-bearer.
