How do you tell...
« on: October 03, 2009, 12:49:59 am »
...rarity in Star Wars CCG? I just traded for a ton of cards with a buddy and want to figure out the rares (not to mention, how to build decks and play).

Help?

Thanks man. I appreciate that. My friend is a part-owner of a local sports card shop and we started tournaments and stuff. He bet store credit on games of MLB Showdown and LotR, but since I really don't collect sports cards anymore and he didn't have anything else, I got a:
-Death Star II Dark Side Starter Deck
-Premiere 60 Card Starter Deck
-3 packs Cloud City
-Jabba's Palace mini-box of 3 cards and like 5 packs
-Cloud City mini-box of 3 cards and like 5 packs

Hopefully I had some pulls...I don't know but I'll find out!

For reference in packs, there are 9 cards. First five are common, next three uncommon. Last one, rare.

Rares:
-Help Me Obi-Wan Kenobi
-Lone Pilot
-Liea of Alderaan
-Artoo, Come Back at Once!
-Surprise
-Flight Escort
-All My Urchins
-E-3P0
-R'kik D'nec, Hero of the Dune Sea (He's not the hero of #$&*@!...who is this guy?!)
-Hutt Bounty
-Taym Dren-Garen (same deal for him!)
-Jabba the Hutt
-Admiral Piett
-Bionic Hand

I think that's all, plus some fixed cards like:
-Boushh
-Lando in Millennium Falcon
-Chewie with Blaster

I still have to go through a tiny stack, but I'll do that later.

R'kik D'nec is annoyingly great in an all jawa deck.  Sadly, I lost to an all jawa deck... and an all tusken raider deck.  It is really hard to beat a guy who owns multiple copies of every single star wars card...

Won some more Cloud City packs. Got Princess Leia and Lando (but he's evil). And two more...don't remember.

Here's a question...what cards (if any) are foils in SWCCG?

not too many, and they were more hype than anything else.  I think they're a waste of time as far as foils go.  They didn't even start foiling them till after LOTR TCG came out

Weak...the card-snob in me is very disappointed.

But that should make the decks much cheaper!

personally, I am not a foil man, in any game.  They're cool, but only a ploy to trick us gamers into spending more money on the game.  A non-foiled luke skywalker jedi knight is just as effective as a non-foiled.  same goes for lotr.  thorongil is just as powerful whether he's foiled or not.  But, regardless, they are fun to collect.  especially when a new player freaks out because you have a foiled card which they do not own.

Yeah...when I am building decks I don't care about foils. But once they are finished, and especially when I stop collecting a game, it is really easy to get rid of a ton of extra cards by trading for foils.

Plus, and whaleyland said this to me, "an almost complete collection is always more fun than a complete collection."

Foils just give me something to work for.
