Actually....quite a few of the better cards were foiled in Star Wars.  With 3 different reflections sets and 20 or so tournament foils and 18 foils from the Endor set there must be close to 400 different foils...

Back to the numbering of cards. Back when Decipher started putting collector's info on STCCG cards I was quite put off, because I thought it was kind of dumbing down the collecting aspect.

Without the info you had to know the sets quite well beforehand and that was part of the fun of collecting, too. Maybe I was a bit of a traditionalist as well, because the first STCCG sets did not even have set icons.

With LotR TCG it was the other way round. I got loads of sets very early on and the info really helped me sorting everything out and getting my bearing pretty fast, so there you go...

With ST2E and LotR card id's don't bother me; with ST1E they do.

not too many, and they were more hype than anything else.  I think they're a waste of time as far as foils go.  They didn't even start foiling them till after LOTR TCG came out

That's not true! There were only 2 sets after LOTR TCG came out! And there already were foil cards then. Paploo for example. But it wasn't mass that's true. I remember I had a foil smoke screen and a luke Skywalker Jedi Knight, a foil Darth maul with ls and a foil Qui-gon with ls.

Old thread, I know.
But I was kind of the same way with LotR. Before LotR, SWCCG was the last TCG I had been into (though I had stopped playing around Cloud City).

But I hated the collector info on the LotR cards when I first started getting into them, I don't know, it just bugged me.

Now, when I see a game without it drives me crazy =)

Now I could not live without the collector's info, either. It does not bother me with my STCCG collection, because all trading, buying, selling etc. of these cards is over and that kind of information has been rendered irrelevant.

I look forward to the day, when I do not have to look at the collector's info on LotR cards any longer.

Just as a sidenote, answering an earlier question regarding who was R'kik D'nec, Hero of the Dead Sea...

I seem to remember that this a Starwarsization of the name Kendrick, referring to Kendrick Summers (I think his name was) who was, I think, Gold Leader back in the day.  He was a decipher employee who seems to have been in charge of all the squadron leaders and promoting the game.  A nice guy, actually.

Loci Rosen was named for Eric Olson, a player from the Chicago area who was (and still is) very good; he was also a playtester at the time.

Elyhek Rue was named for Kyle Heuer, another Decipher employee.

Djas Pur was named for the cat of one of the Decipher employees (Chuck Kallenbach I believe) - the cat's name was Jasper.

Lieutenant Sheckil was named for Tom Lischke, another one of the set designers.

Shawn Valdez was named for a young player who died of leukemia one day after attending a tournament (which he did not even get to finish, due to his illness). Decipher held charity tournaments in his honor for at least a couple of years also. In his lore, Shawn is described as a musician, as was his namesake. Seems sort of silly to mention some of this stuff, but then again, it's important to remember that this was a real person. To learn more, please click here.

I remember hearing about the Shawn Valdez card back in the day.
I think about that every time I flip through my old SWCCG cards.

Thanks for the reminder. It's a good story.

It is very much chance that I even looked at the Star Wars board again, but I do appreciate the story Hawkeye. Not as much the naming the characters after employees...rather, the Shawn Valdez story is a nice example of a collective community coming together to honor someone. :gp: for sharing Hawkeye.

And all Lord of the Rings TCG got was Figwit.
