I SUMMON YOU TO FULFILL YOUR OUTH!
« on: July 14, 2010, 03:46:58 am »
Hello fellow players of LOTR TCG (in GCCG),

Yes the topic may sound too cliché but my general idea is to get your attention because I would like to give a start to a very cool for all of us project and I would need the help and expert opinion of all of you LOTR TCG players (in GCCG).

So let me reveal my ideas. It all started back in the time when Decipher announced that they give up on LOTR TCG project as they have done with many other playing card games. They have made the game too commercial and in the end as they love to do with all their games they have abandoned it… No more new editions… No more "Can't wait for the new edition to come and buy a booster"… And why? Why should we pay decipher or eventually any new company to design our game, the way they did destroying it? (Of course they will even no longer release any cards nor that any company will buy the rights for it and start release something new, but maybe this is all for the best.)
After I found out about GCCG unfortunately too late, I saw many players that still LOVE it and I am sure that even with the "few" 4000 cards that exist we will play for the rest of our lives .

The difference is that LOTR TCG is not just any of those "many other playing card games" it is the best playing card game that was ever created and we have played everything on the market! We all know that besides the fact that the game is unique with its game play and strategies it also has something that every other game will never has, the unique atmosphere of the fantasy roman with which we all have grown up: "There And Back Again" and "The Lord Of The Ring" and of course not the least the movie Trilogy of LOTR. Practically Tolkien gave basis to the modern Fantasy so every other fantasy orientated games are based on his talent and as you all know there is nothing better than the original of which our game bares the legacy . So……

Let's bring back the Middle Earth to live again! Lets create our own cards! Let's create our own editions! Let's make new rules of course respecting the originals as it is what brought us together. I summon you YES! Equip your possessions: Photo Shop, Power Point and Paint and let's move to the new era of the game - The era of the player! We can easily create the cards, we can design them I am sure we will find good arts for the pictures(and don't forget "The Hobbit" will be released soon)! We can test and balance and after some time we can have our own edition! I know that secretly every single one of you have desired this for a long time so let's wait no more and make it happen!

I really need your support here! Any feedback regarding my Idea is welcome!

But enough talking! See what I have done in the time when I have no cases in the queue and am stuck to the work chair:

I think that this would be illegal without the permission of the copyright holder ie. Decipher.

These are really good, but you can't show them on the forum. I would like a PM of these though.

We are not going to sell the cards nor we are going to distribute this somewhere this is going to be a private project and has nothing to do with illegal means  ...
We are going to enjoy them only in GCCG as if we are making a dream cards, but it will be something more. ;)
I can assure you there is nothing illegal in this project, or nothing more than for example the topic we have for the dream cards or actually "GCCG" itself (the program actually itself can't be treated as such so why those card should? ;)

I have studied low...
I assume you mean that you have studied law. Whether this is the case or not, I'm perfectly willing to entertain the notion that my aforementioned belief might require reassessment.

Hello Mr.Lurtzy and Kev-La,

I would like to inform you and everyone else that this topic and this project I have started is related only with the completely free Online version of LOTR TCG which is played with the tool GCCG, so any comments regarding my project coming from players of LOTR TCG who never played the Online version in GCCG are no related to the topic and are irrelevant.

So once again this topic is related to GCCG LOTR players so comments from non such are completely unnecessary and I would ask you not to post any .

Thank you in advance.

Well, first of all, I think it should not be "illegal" to make these. To me, DC's suck if they're not visual. Second, I already know a forum about LOTR DC's where they actually have visual DC's. However, I think I'd be banned if I'd posted the link to you, since it has something to do with some bearded guy, and others, AND it is "illegal".

Oh, and Dimitar, not to ruin your work or anything, but I actually have the real templates for every culture (except Rohan, sadly), with the complete textbox without the colored square and all. PM me if interested.

Doesn't matter though, you cannot post graphical DCs on this forum. Read this post, if you are still confused:

Thanks for the templates.

If you look at some of the previous threads, you'll see that someone is working on making a DC creator for GCCG. I'm also working on a set The Hunt for Gollum that I'd like to bring online (maybe one day...).

A couple months ago I exchanged a couple e-mails with Warren Holland (Decipher CEO), asking him about what is allowed to be posted on this website (i.e. rule clarification, text dream cards, graphical dream cards, card inserts for card errata, etc.)  It still isn't completely clear to me where the "line" we shouldn't cross is, but it gives you an idea of Decipher's current position.

Excerpt from e-mail conversation with Warren Holland (warren.holland@decipher.com):
Quote
...Multiple people have approached us about authorizing a Player's Committee for LOTR, however, we are just not ready to do that. There are lots of issues on the backend legal side that we simply can't get cleared at the moment. That said, I'm not at all against the concept (as you know from our Star Wars CCG and Star Trek CCG support).

While you clearly are free to make inserts for personal use, I'm afraid that I can't yet authorize public distribution of such items. At some point, I suspect we will pick a group and authorize them to use our proprietary rights in such an endeavor. For the next year or so, however, that is not likely...

...However, this is a deep discussion about what copyrights, trademarks, and proprietary rights are and it's too involved for me to give you a full explanation by email (nor would I attempt to give you legal advice anyway). Simply, it makes no difference if it's free or for sale. I may want to use an image from a movie as a poster and give it away to a million people for free, but I can't. That work is protected. Fair use would allow me to make a poster for my own room, but not to make one to distribute to others (free or for sale). Even if I post such a thing on a blog, I would be violating copyrights.

You can't distribute anything using our proprietary rights. Sorry. We recently had to shut down a few websites that were doing just what you are asking to do (only they were doing so with Star Trek CCG). The only authorized source to use Decipher's game, rules, and art rights, etc. are us and the SW and ST committees. I know what you want to do, and at some point we will authorize a committee to do it and you can interact with them to share your ideas for them to distribute, but at the moment, we are not authorizing the distribution of anything that uses our proprietary rights or derivatives of those rights for LOTR. In terms of the LOTR rights themselves, New Line (now Warner Brothers) is not authorizing use.

All the best,
Warren
