Gondor Ranger
« on: December 06, 2010, 09:02:45 pm »
Thinking of a Ranger deck
Boromir, Bearer of Council
The One Ring, AtAR

Sites
(1T) The Riddermark
(2T) Plains of Rohan Camp
(3T) Barrow of Edoras
(4T) Ered Nimrais
(5T) Hornburg Courtyard
(6T) Hornburg Armory
(7T) Hornburg Causeway
(8T) Wizard's Vale
(9T) Fortress of Orthanc

1x Faramir, Captain of Gondor (start)
 1x Ranger of Ithilien (start)
1x Madril, Defender of Osgiliath (start)
2x Ranger of the White Tree
 4x Ancient Roads
 1x Faramir's Bow, Ithilien Longbow
 1x Aragorns Bow
1x Anduril, Sword that was Broken
 1x Aragorn, Thorongil
 3x Sword of Gondor
 3x Gondorian Blade
 1x Knife of the Galadhrim
4x Swordsman of the northern Kingdom
 4x Concealment
 4x War and Valor
 2x Ranger of Minas Tirith
 1x Mablung, Soldier of Gondor
4x No Stranger to the Shadows

Strategy here is to get out as many cards and possessions out as early as possible.  All the weapons wait til after site three so that others fellowship has to lose a few weapons while I hold them a while longer.

Well the entire idea is that he can at least have an effect of some sort.  Also if he's not facing to great a threat I can wound him twice instead of burdening him.  Also it's not likely that he'll have to participate in any skirmishes unless I get swarmed, cause I have a minimum of 5 characters out on the board at any given time.

OH CRAP!! Never mind this deck I'm gonna have to come up with something completely new cause I can't have one of my companions out in play as starting and so have to change the entire strategy

Why not have several Ranger of the White Tree starting?

Well I just realized that I can't have the Ranger of the White Tree due to the fact that I can't spot any unbound companions other that Madril and he doesn't have a high enough twilight cost.  That also ruins me playing Aragorn and basically the entire deck.

Ok... My ring-bearer only has 8 resistance so I can't fit the Halbarad into the deck.  Second I really dislike Strider due to the fact that he always adds two pool when the fellowship moves.

sure strider adds two, but he is an 8/4 comp for 1 twilight!

K so I could add 1 extra pool each turn or I could use Thorongil, 8/4 hunter 2 and play him from draw deck using a site for 4 pool.  However it's pretty uncommon for anyone to be able to hit very hard on site 2 without a nazgul.  Also since he's hunter and not most people I play with have hunter he's basically a 10 str comp.

Of course Thorongil is better.

I think Jdizzy and L3333 are pointing out that you can still have a huge starting fellowship. Which seems to be the point of your deck.

Well it's to get out as many companions as possible before the Shadow player can do anything but I'm trying to do it without Aragorn in my starting fellowship.

I can't afford to do that.  Prince of Ithilien costs 3, Ranger of the White Tree costs 1.  So 2 of them add up to 5.  Also Prince of Ithilien isn't a ranger.  :hey:
