Five Versions of: Men of Harad
« on: December 18, 2010, 08:44:16 am »
Haha. This card is terrible.

5.
(0) Men of Harad [Raider]
Condition * Support Area
While you can spot 3 [Raider] Men and a site you control, each companion is strength -1.
Skirmish: Discard this condition to wound a Ranger skirmishing a [Raider] Man.

4.
(0) Men of Harad [Raider]
Event * Maneuver
Exert a Southron to spot a character. Add [2] for each wound on that character.

3.
(0) Men of Harad [Raider]
Condition * Support Area
To play, spot a [Raider] Man.
Maneuver: Spot three minions with ambush and discard this condition to add a burden.
Regroup: Spot two minions with ambush and discard this condition to add a burden.

2.
(0) Men of Harad [Raider]
Event * Regroup
Spot X companions to play X Southron minions from your discard pile.

1.
(0) Men of Harad [Raider]
Event * Regroup
If you can spot more Southrons than companions, you may discard 2 minions to take control of a site.

I don't really like any of these, but they are all much better than the original.

I like that five messes with Rangers. However, the rest of the card is instant victory is you control a few sites and have four in play.

All your companions are strength -8? Might need to be unique?

Three also seems like it would add a lot of burdens.

Two could be fun. Gives a use for all the shadow generated from Ambush almost certainly stopping a double move.

Actually, Southrons suck at site control. I've never seen a Southron site control deck before. The only thing I saw was splashed Southron Archer in a Besieger or Isengard site control decks. That's why number 5 is not really that powerful.

I'd like to keep the original text of the card. It's ok, but its cost is too high. Controled site, 3 [Raider] men and [2] is way too much. But if that cost went down to:

Spot a site you control, exert a [Raider] man and remove [1] to draw a card.

This seems ok to me.

I like #1 the most. hrcho is right, Southron sucks at site control. They need help and this card would help them.

I changed a few things. For the sake of not altering the card's title (or uniqueness), I just changed some stipulations on 5 and 3.

I like #1 the most. hrcho is right, Southron sucks at site control.
That's because they only have three cards that can take control of sites: Regiment of Haradrim, Desert Lancers, and Southron Explorer.

Southron Sentry, Southron Archer, and Men of Harad are the only cards that even reference [Raider] site control.

5.
(0) Men of Harad [Raider]
Condition * Support Area
While you can spot 3 [Raider] Men and a site you control, each companion is strength -1.
Skirmish: Discard this condition to wound a Ranger.
I would probably go with "... spot 3 [Raider] cards", or I might actually be more inclined for "... each companion skirmishing your [Raider] Man is strength -1" (or Southron). I would also make the second ability have cultural enforcement, ie. "Discard this condition to wound a ranger skirmishing a Southron", or something similar.

4.
(0) Men of Harad [Raider]
Event * Maneuver
Spot a character. Add [2] for each wound on that character.
Again with the cultural enforcement. Otherwise a fine card. I like how it fits seamlessly into the Southron deck—what are the things they like? twilight and wounding.

3.
(0) Men of Harad [Raider]
Condition * Support Area
To play, spot a [Raider] Man.
Maneuver: Spot three minions with ambush and discard this condition to add a burden.
Regroup: Spot two minions with ambush and discard this condition to add a burden.
This one is a miss for me. There doesn't seem to be any reason why this card cares about ambush. If it removed twilight, then it might make sense, but then you don't need to reference ambush at all because simply by removing twilight later in the turn you are saying "this card is good with ambush". Also, Southrons have never added burdens—that was the Easterlings. So overall, I'm not a fan of this one at all.

2.
(0) Men of Harad [Raider]
Event * Regroup
Spot X companions to play X Southron minions from your discard pile.
This seems really bizarre in [Raider]. The only Men who have been able to play guys from the discard pile are [Dunland] and I think Corsairs, and I can't see why it would belong in Southron. Also spotting X companions seems fairly random. Yeah, not sure what this card is doing. I like how it does get you "Men of Harad", but that's really where it ends for me.

How about a card like: "Add [1] for each Southron you can spot"? Literally requiring you to have Men of Harad.

1.
(0) Men of Harad [Raider]
Event * Regroup
If you can spot more Southrons than companions, you may discard 2 minions to take control of a site.
This is okay but very unlikely. I think if you wanted to make a site control card that Southrons could actually use, you would remove the first clarification and just have "Discard 2 Southrons to take control of a site". Of course, the best card for Southron site control at the moment is Siege Troop. ;)
