« Last Edit: April 02, 2011, 10:47:02 PM by ket_the_jet, Reason: ES: Considering Kralik had posted a few times before your edit, and considering the conversation in question was a total #$&*@!-fest, I\'d say that the post was fine as it was. If you have a problem with my posts in the future, I encourage you to PM me rat »
Ket's edit/reversion was in response to my editing his "Remember this #$&*@!?" comment. In my view his edit deserved the first warning level, but after a PM exchange I think it's settled for now (though he still wants me to give advance notice in the future--more on that later).

The comment in another thread about keeping things family friendly (though for another subject) kind of made me realize just how lax things have become. I feel people should find better ways of wording things instead of settling for the anything goes attitude. Though he also mentioned no one else seemed to have a problem with it...so, how do others feel about it?

Also, how do others feel about giving members a chance to fix things first? I'm thinking a PM notice might be a good idea regardless (unless the forum can send one automatically whenever another person has edited a post), instead of waiting for the poster to stumble across it.

I keep the language filters on, so I didn't really know what he had said. :-S

I'm all for returning to the prior standard of "family friendliness."

This forum is family friendly. It is the way it has always been.

Kralik responding doesn't mean a previous reply wasn't in violation of the rules. The must apply equally to everyone.

I think ket's always ready to push the limits, though. For example, his advice to Kenddrick to go find some porn and have at it is NOT family friendly.

We have to use our best judgement. We don't want to alienate people by following the rules too strictly, but then again guys like Mager...

Thought about his request a bit, and I think he has it backwards. I'd rather not spend more time than necessary cleaning up someone's mess, much less haggle over the "might even comply" (his words) part.

A notification of edit might be a good idea, the reason could be kept private that way to prevent potential embarrassment...?

I don't think so. I'd rather have people who read the original message (or even who haven't) KNOW that it was edited for a reason. Also, ket tends to do that a lot, he simply re-edit the posts that get edited, with some lame excuse as to people not having problems with it, or TheJord or Kralik not having said anything, which IMO pushes the boundaries a little too much as in "I'll only get edited by Admins", which, frankly, kind of undercuts out jobs as moderators. I think the rules of the Forum are pretty clear, and I shouldn't have to PM users saying "Hey, you broke the rules on post L, in topic C, so how about you edit it?" and then having to check it, when the user can pretty much turn the "Screw this" button on and not care. However, I think ket's repeated attitude (he does that a lot to posts I edit as well) warrants some response. I'd simply suggest that posts edited by mods COULDN'T be edited by the user, however, I, for one, tend to edit main posts in Lothlorien a lot, since people do not read the rules and, for instance, tend to post deck-related questions without interrogation marks as an icon, and if this kicked in, they wouldn't then be able to POST said deck. A minor glitch, for sure, as he can simply post the deck in another post in the same thread, but it makes reading it messier. However, it would work for the time being (and THIS sort of editing could be done by the user with the PM method, I believe, since it IS in their best interest), but as a permanent suggestion, I'd like to know if it's possible to have an option to "turn on" this kind of limitation, say, when a mod edits a post, he can check a box somewhere and the user can't edit said post until the mod check off the box again. So, it's kind of reversing what ket wants, if THEY want their post restored of their own accord (meaning, with their own, OTHER words - since the original won't do), THEY can PM US about it. Thoughts?
PS: And yes, for reiterated conduct, I think a pre-warning is good enough.
