An entire topic deleted?
« on: April 19, 2011, 05:32:39 am »
Just wondering, what's the policy on deleting entire topics?

That depends heavily on the case. Topic deletion is usually a topic creator's policy, though some topics, like advertising, are deleted on the spot. Also, repetitive topics might warrant deletion, though usually a post telling where it might be found and a lock up are more common, albeit repeated offense might warrant deletion.

riiiite, what about when it doesn't fall into any of these and or it might be embarassing to a mod or something, does that require deletion too?

No, it doesn't. As far as I can remember, those are the cases in which an entire topic might be deleted. Anything else, if reported, should warrant an investigation, at least.

hmmm ok... you might care to investigate then, 'cause I could swear I had seen a very odd topic about a mod's blog and then as soon as a few posts popped out dissing the idea, the topic vanished from the face of the earth... what could have happened to it?

How long is this going to continue? While I can see why FM might delete his thread, dragging this out is pointless. Please just let it go.

Maybe we should allow everybody (not only mods) to delete whatever we think is not convenient any more right?

Just stick a "delete topic" button and make it public. I just don't see other more pointless topics get deleted, instead they're locked and exposed, while for a mod, when something went wrong, it was deleted as soon as possible so nobody else sees it.

And yet how can they put a straight face and just pretend nothing happened when confronted about it? lol are you really that embarassed? It's really pathetic.

Anyway, guess my point is made.

You meant my thread? Should've said it from the start. You answered it yourself, really. People didn't like the idea at all, so I killed it.

Btw, as far as I'm concerned, people CAN delete their own topics. If they can't I actually didn't know that, I can recall it having happened on occasion. Anyway, I don't see the big deal, as you said, I proposed something, people didn't want it, so I let it go. Period.

...I have deleted many topics that I started, during my time here. Decks in Lothlorien mainly, because they sucked.

...Yes, Leokula delete this topic, it seems to have robbed you of some gold. I wonder if that gold will be restored if the topic gets wiped...

No. Lost gold sticks around even if you delete the thread that originated it. Same goes with posts. I believe Kralik said that on his announcement, but I may be mistaken.
