2011 NFL Draft
« on: April 29, 2011, 04:36:11 am »
This is the least excited I had been for the draft in years (the lockout and such has really disenfranchised me to the NFL).

Anyways, as those of you who use the search function know*, I'm a New York Giants fan. So I'm pretty psyched up that Prince Amukamara fell to 19.

Who is your favorite team? Pick? Etc.

J.J. Watt to Houston was pretty huge for them. I thought that was a great pick. And Jimmy Smith was a great pick for the Ravens.

What about Atlanta? They gave up a fortune for Julio Jones. There is no reason for Jones to not hold out for a mega-contract.

* Just kidding.

Eagles all the way. Though I also have greatly lost interest in this whole thing since the lockout. I didn't pay attention to the draft this year.

Falcons and Saints are definitely contenders.

Heck, even the Bucs could give either of those team a run for their money.  And who knows, maybe Cam Newton will be lightning in a bottle for the panthers.  That really isn't a horrible team, record notwithstanding.

I'm pretty bullish on throwing the Panthers into the mix of potentially good teams this year considering they have a new head coach and a new rookie quarterback who will be missing time to work on the playbook with the lockout.

My biggest question pick in the draft was the Jaguars taking Blaine Gabbert. Yes, I understand the Jags have been looking for a franchise quarterback for a while but Jack Del Rio has been on the hot seat for a while. Let's say he gets fired...new regimes generally mean new quarterbacks. Sure, the Tebow-in-Denver thing may be an exception but I don't have any problem seeing John Fox say after the season, "Let's look at Andrew Luck."

Another questionable call--sorry Lurtzy--was the Eagles taking Danny Watkins, who will be 27 years old at the start of the season. What kind of foresight is that? The guy might play four years with the Eagles if he plays out his rookie contract and then what? If he's great we all know the Eagles won't pay him and they will be looking to draft a guard again.

Anyways, I am in love with the Giants draft.
