What Are You Listening To?

I have been "trading" music with a friend from out of state recently via e-mail (i.e., compressing the song files and sending them) and I figured that I might as well check and see what people are listening to around here.

If anyone has some really good ones or anything that really intrigues me, I might request that you send me the albums (via compressed files over e-mail). I can send you cards from my trade list as compensation or exchange music as well.

I'm out of town for the weekend but I may loiter via the wondrous internet-capable phone. Looking forward to seeing what people respond by Monday at the latest.

Depends on what you like. I, for one, like "music", meaning, I can find something I like in pretty much any kind of music. For Brazilian stuff (at least semi-current, if we dig back there are others), I'd recommend you check CPM 22, Paralamas do Sucesso, Jota Quest or Skank, they're all nice bands and most of them appeal to different genres as well, so they're quite broad and people always find something they like.

To answer your question, I am pretty open to anything. I have a lot of everything and am always looking for more. To take from a previous topic of mine, I would categorize my collection like this:
There is a lot of: "Classic" rock, Jazz, "Conscious" Hip-Hop, Blues, Folk
There is a good bit of: Indie, R&B, Jam Band, Swing/Big Band
There is some: Soundtrack music, Pop, Alternative Rock, Electronica/Dance, Classical, Opera
There is nearly none of/no: Religious, "Hard" Rock/Metal, "Gangster" Rap, Punk, Modern Rock/Top 40s of today

That said, and this is probably just because I am OCD, I don't really want to just get one or two songs by a particular artist; I would be looking for full albums. I like listening to music in its original context. Shoot me a PM if there is anything you might be interested in and I'll see if I have it.

I like dropkick murphies a lot as well, kinda curious as to what other celtic punk bands you guys would recommend, I might be interested in really getting into the genre.

Right now, Tarkus by Emerson, Lake and Palmer. Though recently I've been listening a lot to Chilean Folk Communist music like Congreso, Inti Illimani, Victor Jara, etc.

Classic/Southern rock and a little bit of metal and punk.
Lynyrd Skynyrd, Allman Brothers, Charlie Daniels, Kansas, Led Zeppelin and Queen are my favorites.
Also like Judas Priest and Dead Kennedys, and, ever since macheteman posted about Celtic rock, Flogging Molly.

Also, Ket, I have a feeling that you might just love a band I have known for some years and that you maybe have heard of: King Crimson. It's pretty much 70's classic rock, and for most, the founding band of the Proggresive Rock genre. Some of the songs, though might just be a little heavy, but the cool thing about this band is that their music range is endless, going from Hard Rock to Jazz, Folk, Psychedelic, etc, but they still have this distinctive sound of theirs, and they've had like dozens of members in all the band's lifetime. Plus their main member, Robert Fripp, is regarded as one of the biggest guitar gods ever. Seriously, the guy's a genius, and each song by them is so complicated, calculated almost mathematically, very experimental in many ways and improvisational, as well as being so.. "logical" to put it in a way. Just so you can understand a little better, King Crimson's been like the biggest influence on Tool, if that helps. But all in all, if you wanna know an obscure cult band with amazing musicianship, listen to some of their songs. Wether you like them or not, it's an amazing expierence to listen to them anyway, and at least I can assure you with no doubt they're nothing like you've heard before, seriously.
