Live-Tweeting Lord of the Rings
« on: July 01, 2012, 04:26:03 am »
It is 10:30 on a Saturday. I am going to risk losing the few followers I have live-tweeting The Fellowship of the Ring. #LordoftheRings

Sauron's helmet looks like the castle on the cover of The Little Mermaid.

He's invisible. He should have just killed the Orcs. Also, rings don't fall off when you clench your fist.

A wizard is never late. #MagicContraceptive

How much would you pay to live in a people-sized Bag End?

Bilbo was mumbling awkwardly through a birthday speech so I got up for a beer. I came back and he was gone.

Everyone has a crush on a Rosie Cotton at some point in his life. But those crushes rarely fuel a perilous journey. #WellBelowAverage

Ringwraiths...pretty terrifying.

Apparently, they use miles--not kilometers--in Middle Earth.

'They will never stop hunting you.' - Bambi's Mom

Real estate market has crashed around Weathertop, too.

If this was an video game, Aragorn would have picked up those discarded Nazgûl swords and sold them at a town merchant.

I am at the scene where they introduce the eagle that could have flown Frodo to Mordor.

Men have facial hair, Hobbits have perms, and not a single Elf wears bangs. #RingsStereotypes

Rohan seems under-represented at Elrond's council.

If you have been following along on the Extended Edition BluRay, you also had to get up to put on disc two.

I have a cousin Balin who lives in a cave and listens to Iron Maiden too.

Swamp Thing just destroyed a Dwarven architectural treasure.

'Follow your nose.' - #ToucanSam - #Gandalf

'I'm going to go get...uh...goblin army!' #FriskyDingo

Howard Shore may be the MVP thus far. Maybe the best soundtrack since Last of the Mohicans.

@CateBlanchett is stunningly regal.

Extended edition failings: Inserting a fart joke where there was none before.

If I was a character in Lord of the Rings, I would be #Boromir. He's the most human.

I mean, could you deny unanswerable power? Presume you did have the best of intentions. Could you?

'I'll make sure humans do the right thing.' That is a bold promise, Aragorn. #war #poverty #economiccollapse #bigotry #onering

You can re-follow me now. Unless I decide to watch #TwoTowers tomorrow.

I'll be honest, I'm probably not going to watch Towers tonight.

I watched The Fellowship of the Ring on BluRay last night and decided to post updates on Twitter as I was watching it.

I'll probably do the same thing with Two Towers tonight, so feel free to stalk here.

Okay...watching #TwoTowers. Let's recap: source material available courtesy J.R.R. Tolkien.

Frodo and Sam are lost. When I feel lost, I take a loaf of Wonder Bread to a duck pond.

Before we get too far, let's thank Rustico for providing the pizza. The waiter had the #OneRing between his nostrils, by the way.

Best line: 'What do you smell?' 'Man flesh!'

Serious respect for the actors who played the orcs emerging from the wombs of the earth. Muddy afterbirth everywhere.

Can you imagine if a world leader nowadays had an advisor named 'Grima Wormtongue?'

In other news, Barack Obama's newest advisors are Jerry Sandusky and Casey Anthony. [Read previous tweets, people who read out of context].

The CGI in these films was largely revolutionary, but the Ents look kind of like a weak use of green screens at parts.

Oh yeah. Dragons. That's why you can't fly an Eagle to Mordor.

Did they walk through the forest where their horses decided to meet them or did they return to where they entered minus an orc grave?

It is probably hotter here right now than Mordor. Just saying.

I love this movie, but there may be a few too many Ent scenes.

Film editor's note: In some scenes, to make Gimli the dwarf appear shorter, Éowyn's forehead was stretched to unnatural lengths.

'Frodo, you aren't eating or sleeping and you are volatile and pissy.' #LawSchoolInGondor

'War will make corpses of us all.'

Dishing about dwarf women...unnecessary addition to the extended addition.

Here is where Éowyn learns that geographic convenience does not beat the promise of an Elven princess.

'Wargs! If only we hadn't left the squeaky chew toys in Rohan!'

This scene reminds me of a college bio class I took and serves as a reminder that I know too much about hyena reproductive processes.

Look it up in your own time, perverts.

'You're in love? Because I saw Louis CK and he said that best-case scenario you for first and leave your love to grieve your loss.' -Elrond

Faramir flashback scene. Nice introduction to Middle Earth's worst father.

I still remember the cheers at the theatre for Gollum's fish song.

The concept of Faramir being susceptible to the influence of the Ring--entirely created for this film--grows on me each time I watch.

Nothing like breaking up war preparations like a circle of talking trees.

Éowyn declares her love for a man she met a day and a half ago. She's a long way from [spoiler alert!] killing the King of the Nazgûl.

Another Peter Jackson decision that has grown on me: Elf army reinforcements.

Old granola head gets first confirmed kill of Battle of #HelmsDeep. He's never seen again.

I never thought the surfing-on-a-shield scene was cool. It's even worse that they repeat the concept in the next film.

Totally forgot there is a Frodo subplot. Did I say 'subplot?' I mean 'plot.' Destroying the Ring is the plot.

'Treebeard' was the most drawn-out chapter in the books, too.

Éomer, Gandalf, bright lights, Orc-slaying trees, lucky arrow shot...this battle transition sequence has everything.

You know, I would argue that #Samwise, not #Frodo, is the main protagonist of #LordoftheRings.

Alright. That's all I've got. I wonder when I'll find time for #ReturnOfTheKing...?

Don't do it, Mr. Jet.

You know, I would argue that #Samwise, not #Frodo, is the main protagonist of #LordoftheRings.

Quite true.  He is certainly meant to be the most human/life-sized character.

Through Disc One of King:

Day three. #ReturnOfTheKing. Deal with it. Life will be back to normal tomorrow.

#Smeagol kills for a ring and his teeth just go berserk. He's going to need some #mithril crowns.

Lord of the Rings drinking game is called 'Last Man Standing Wins the Drinking Game.'

I'm a fan of how Jackson et. al depicted Gollum personality vs. Sméagol personality.

Aw...Pippin just wants his buddy to come with him to Minas Tirith.

People mock the bedside bromance between Frodo and Sam at the end [spoiler alert], but I think Merry/Pippin at Edoras may be more

Arwen is great--WHO IS THAT?! @bretmckenzie3

Look at Pippin...setting fire to the rain.

Great reminder that, no matter how much you hate your job, you aren't sitting on top of a mountain all day looking for a torch to be lit.

I'm not going to tweet about the Orc General. I'm not going to tweet about the Orc General. I'm not going to tweet about the Orc General.

Denethor is a real villain. Kate Gosselin might be a better single parent than him.

Oddly enough, I never noticed the apparition of the King of the Dead when Aragorn is at the camp.

Aragorn, Gimli, and Legolas are about to get some Grade-A, USDA deus ex machina.

It's kind of a shame that Gimli is comic relief in these movies.

Nerd Facts: Gimli is mentioned almost 50 times more in the Lord of the Rings series than Legolas.

Fleeing the Hall of the Dead...pretty weak CGI.

Nazgûl...again...they're terrifying.

Running on a pile of dead Orcs with a battering ram...hilarious. Why didn't they just use Grond in the first place?

If he really wanted to scare the humans, the Ringwraith King would've ridden the giant spider into Minas Tirith.

I never thought about this until right now, but where did the spider stab Frodo and wasn't he wearing an impenetrable #mithril coat?

Rohan! Thanks for your timely arrival!

Théoden's speech is one of my favorite scenes in the three movies.

Oliphants. The #ChekovGun of the Lord of the Rings movies.

Legolas climbing on an elephant, then sliding down it's trunk. Nobody likes that. [Also, possibly the worst CGI in the films].

Why did you release the ghost army after the battle? Don't you know there is still Mordor on the docket?

Sorry, had to watch in slow motion when an orc crushed another orc's head with a boulder. Back to the movie.

Sam can run pretty fast. He's like Rudy.

The Mouth of Sauron is hilarious.

Sam: Stop talking. Let's get some battles going.

The eagles are apparently a match for the ringwraiths on dragons. Now we're back to the "Why not fly the ring to Mordor" question.

Not with the bloody stump hand!

It's hotter than #$&*@!. 1997's MORDOR, starring Tommy Lee Jones and Don Cheadle.

The battle is won. Time for #Aragorn to take on the life of a bureaucrat. #Hope #FourthAge

Just checked. They're celebrating and jumping on a bed. And there is still 41 minutes in this movie.

I cannot believe this already existed: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i75Qqr5F2hI

It's over now. Resume your lives and, I promise, I'll resume mine.
