Episode 3 was good enough but not the best one. Old Trilogy for the win as far as I'm conserned.
My favourite movie (of any kind) is Star Wars, Episode IV: A New Hope, but since I think of the six-film 'saga' as being a single story, I don't tend to compare and contrast between them very much :)

Actually, for me it is Epp. IV and V only. I despise VI, because that was where all the marketing pornography started. Ewoks - give me a BREAK!!! Vader coming back from the dark side was a story-telling hack job at best.

So, I've gone further than ket and had my memories of everything but IV and V erased. The open end of ESB is so cool in itself. Think about it for a second and you'll understand what I mean.

RotJ was always my favorite growing up.  I don't remember seeing any of the original trilogy for the first time. It was just always a part of my knowledge and I have always been a fan.

I LOVED Jedi growing up. It was the movie that I watched every day as a kid so I never minded the Ewoks. It wasn't until I got older and started looking around on Star Wars sites that I realized there were people out there that hated that part of the movie.

I liked Ep. VI, too, when I was a kid. And it is awesome to watch when you are young. However, tastes change. As I learned more and more about drama, watched more (arthouse) movies, read the classics, I started to realize how little RotJ offered in terms of story, drama and overall character depth. Where IV and V are absolutely brilliant, RotJ is a hatchet job and pretty much that what I-III are: a marketing vehicle.

I completely understand the emotional attachment one has for particular movies. I somehow lost it for Ep. VI.

ep. V was extremely well done. In my educated opinion, Irvin Kershner is an excellent story teller.

Watched the original trilogy as a kid (all out by then), and I still view the Ewoks kindly for their part in an enjoyable OT universe. I mean, I could see why they'd ruin the mood for some, and how an effective resistance would raise eyebrows, but... it's too late for me now.

I completely agree, but unfortunately you'll have to change the "is" to a "was" - Irvin died November 27th 2010.  :(

doesn't change the fact he is a great story teller, unless you don't believe in an afterlife ;)

Hey guys, now what was the deal with Darth Maul?... I mean, he clearly had the potential to become the new generation Darth Vader, he's on every piece of Ep. 1 marketing , and they totally blew it with a nearly speechless character with 1 epic fight in the end... I mean, people try to create epic villains all the time and they just can't do it... they sort of did it with Darth Maul and then threw it away...

It was very funny, but terribly over-priced.
