Also... who would give their ships names like Accuser, Executor, and Tyrant? :P
U're forgetting about their crown jewel-the Death Star.

Are these crafts named in the film? Or is this additional information brought in from somewhere else?

Looks like I'll have to concede this point; not even Executor is named in the scripts. Out of curiosity, does anyone know what canon level these names fall under?

U're forgetting about their crown jewel-the Death Star.
Ironically, I totally forgot about that one.

Well, the Death Star could be explained as bringing death to intolerance of other ideas. Keep in mind, military operations, weapons, and bases have taken on less-than-savory names.

All in the name of peace, friends!

A wise man once said, that fighting for peace is like #$&*@! for virginity. But anyway...In my oppinion, bringing death, if not done by Death itself, is evil.

Accuser, Executor, and Tyrant are not all bad aswell, on the other hand. Accusing someone is not bad if justified. Executing(orders) is alright, if the orders themselves aren't evil, and Tyranny wasn't such a bad form of government, back in the ancient greece. We're going in circles...What kind of action or deed is actually evil for you?

And mind it...If u're bringing death to the intolerance of other ideas, how is your idea ever proven wrong? U leave people no alternative but to overcome your death threat, and prove you wrong by force. If you have an idea, you have to be prepared to take some criticism, not to just kill anyone who oppose it...And let me tell you, a sith lord with means of mass destruction in his hands, doesnt admit wrongs likely.

That right there, that is evil. If you cannot see that, then there's no point in continuing this.

I was curious ... who named the Death Star? Perhaps the Rebel Alliance?

The original plans of Death Star were designed by Geonosioans. At the end of Episode 2, Count Dooku delivers designs of Death Star, which were given to him by Poggle the Lesser, to Sidious. So I guess Geonosians might have named it. They never refer to it as the Death Star though, so it's possible that it was named later on by the Imperials.

I'm with chompers on this. Pep, stop breaking the rules. For all I care, episodes 1, 2, and 3 don't exist. Pretend we are talking in, what, 1985 or so?

Ow...No it was kinda an offtopic question, so I anwsered in an offtopic manner. With my last post I didn't want to compromise your faith in the Empire...Just wanted to setisfy chompers' curiosity. xD
And I failed to provide the right info about it. Count Dooku merely gave the designs to Geonosians for them to research them. What we see in ep2 is Geonosians returning the plans in fear the Jedi might take them.

But let's go back to the eightees, now.
We don't know who named it Death Star(although I beleive the emperials are refering to it in the same way), but the name itself isn't too relevant. Names don't destroy planets.

I think there's a scene where Tarkin call this space station "death star", but I'm not 100% sure.

Feels like the discussion has gone from whether the Empire is "evil" (though that term may be too loaded to be useful), to whether "evil" policies are acceptable for certain goals, to whether it's possible to interpret everything another way. I'll just say that while watching the movies, I never once felt like Vader and the Emperor were looking out for the good of the galaxy.

What happens if you are passive an accept the rule of the Empire? Are you worse off? Are you enslaved and your rights taken away? Maybe it is just those that oppose them they feel the 'evil' of the Empire?

What evidence exists in Episodes 4-6 that being part of the Empire is actually a bad thing? Without the Rebellion, would there be war if everyone peacefully accepted their rule?

Maybe the Emporer wants to be a benelovent dictator, it's just those rebels that stops him aspiring to his goals.

I'm just asking because I find this an interesting take on the Star Wars universe.

See, chompers, this is exactly what I have been saying the whole time. Based on the set-up of the three films, the Rebels basically "started it."

Well, doesn't it say that the galaxy is 'in a state of civil war'? And since we are debating this as if we were in 1983 (the year The Return of the Jedi was released) we don't know who started it, merely that a conflict exists. And we are told very clearly that these are the 'bad guys'. Lucas didn't need to give concrete reasons, he just lets us know they exist. 'A New Hope' starts in the middle of a war, or suppression of an uprising if you prefer, so saying the Rebels have perhaps committed a few crimes doesn't not mean they are evil. And then there's Alderaan. If you believe destroying a few billion lives is 'OK' to quell an uprising then obviously I can argue until I'm blue in the face and you'd still try to vindicate the Empire.
