I understand your feelings, with not wanting to axe anyone, but you and Kralik ARE the Admins, and this is, unfortunately, part of your attributions as such. I, for one, would understand just fine if I were to get axed. As Conor once put it, moderating is about BEING a moderator, not HAVING the mod status. So even if I got axed, I could still step in when arguments arise to try and talk some sense, etc. I just wouldn't have the moderator abilities.
Also, being a moderator is serving as part of the staff, because the staff trusted me to do a job they needed done, and if they happen to don't need it anymore, or they decide they didn't need as many people doing it, I think it's perfectly fine to reduce the number of moderators.
As I said before, I'm not encouraging you to do it, by no means, I'm just easing your burden, should you decide to.
EDIT: I think you need to think this through and, if you decide we DO have too many mods, decide what to do about it. I don't think it's the right way to allow people to volunteer to step down (nor stepping down yourself because of it), as I said earlier, you guys are the Admins, so YOU step US down as needed.
