Anyways, here's another light-hearted interjection to keep people from taking things personally.

Good thing u keep posting those, cuz after reading your posts I always get the urge of punchin u in da face. And not because of your perception of evil, but because u're questioning George Lucas...It's blasphemic, dood. But luckily, those light hearted interjections always calm me down. xD

Syllogism:
Destroying a government facility is murder.
Murder is evil.
Destroying a government facility is evil.

It works both ways. Do you legitimately think the guy who served sloppy joes in the mess hall deserved to die? Just some ordinary guy who needed a job and appreciated the security a job with the government provided.

Saying the Death Star was only useful for destroying planets is like saying that the Pentagon is only useful for destruction. It seemed to me like a meeting hall for the Empire's top minds, a port-and-station for the Empire's fleet, and a hub for governmental traffic. It had more top generals, not to mention the Emperor's top diplomat, than the Pentagon and it even housed the Emperor for a short amount of time. Not to mention the only time the Death Star was ever shown antagonizing anyone was when the threat of destruction via stolen blueprints (A New Hope) or straight-forward attack (Return of the Jedi) was looming.

I don't have a problem with ruling through fear. It is a tried-and-true method that elicits more emotions than any other form of rule that I can think of. You know what other ruler just wants to be feared? God. But that's another story.

Anyways, here's another light-hearted interjection to keep people from taking things personally.

I see once again you are shifting attention to the actions of the Rebellion. Murder is evil. The Empire committed mass murder by blowing up a planet. Thus, the Empire is evil. Stop dodging the issue.

I am just saying that you can't call one evil without calling the other evil.

I am also saying that, given their circumstances, neither was 'evil.'

Also, and I have no problem saying this, A New Hope and Empire Strikes Back are the only good things in Star Wars lore.

I disagree with the last one. I really like the whole SW universe, especially both trilogies. But all the expanded universe answers a lot of questions like Why are there only 2 sith lords, and stuff...But even if you are right(which you are not), and there is a plot hole, it was nicely patched up with the later development of events. It's kinda your own fault if u see a flaw in these films, since u  isolated yourself from everything that happened before and after(and is important just aswell).
And since we're limiting ourselves to small fragments of the whole idea. Why shouldn't we just take a part where Chewbacca shoots a storm troopah, and claim Chewie is evul. Or better yet...Let's limit ourselves to the part where death star gets blown up. This way we'll be able to feel sorry for it without that silly idea, that the empire deserved it.
And let me give you and overwiev of facts again...
The filmmakers tell us, as straightforward as they can, THE EMPIRE IS EVIL.
The empire blows up a whole planet...Populated.
The empire is ran by Sith Lords, which are aswell strongly hinted to be evil.

Anyway, I still don't understand how the #$&*@! did you overcome the fact that the film makers stated it. I can understand that the "evilness" of a deed is a matter of perspective, but that...I dunno...If u disregard that fact, it's impossible to argue.

ow...and another edit: Since u already mentioned the terrorists and stuff...Do you know what a word terrorist means? It consists of the words terror and ist. Terror we all know what means, and -ist ending tells us that the word is about a follower of some ideology. So terrorism is what u'd call...A terror doctrine. And who else was better at inflicting terror than the empire? So if anyone, the imperials were the terrorists...Maybe they didn't live up to the modern meaning of the word but hey...U said it yourself...Those were another times.

Actually, the definition of a terrorist is a person or persons who use fear as an extra-political way of achieving a means.

That's a pretty spot on definition of the Empire right there.

Like it or not, they were the politicians in power. It was the Rebel Alliance who went extra-political, stealing government weapon designs and destroy a government station.

There was a government before, but the Empire destroyed it. Sidious was the only one with true power.

So why did the Empire blow up Alderaan then? Not because their were rebels on it, but to get information. How is that not evil in the most innate sense of the word?

There was a government before, but the Empire destroyed it. Sidious was the only one with true power.

Can't call him that mate, he's not referred to as Sidious in the original trilogy. :D

I guess Sidious is Palpatine? I only saw Episodes 1 and 2 one time each. Unimpressed.

Palpatine was always Sidious, like Vader was always Anakin.

I have a real problem with the Dark Sith Lord being called "Annie."

It would be like calling Sauron "Sara."
